Thousand Oaks Reads 2009 - One City One Book

September 26 through November 14

Several locations in Thousand Oaks

Event Description

The City of Thousand Oaks Libraries presents Thousand Oaks Reads 2009.

One City, One Book is a citywide book club. The entire community is invited to read and discuss the same book; participate in book discussions, film screenings, an essay contest and other events held throughout the city.

The 2009 selection is The Soloist by Steve Lopez. This year’s book is a work of nonfiction which chronicles a powerful story of friendship between the author and Nathaniel Ayers, a highly gifted musician and former Julliard student who struggles with mental illness. Mr. Lopez, a columnist for the Los Angeles Times, first encountered Nathaniel intently playing his two-stringed violin on a street corner near Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles. What started as a pursuit for a great story developed into a friendship that changed both their lives.

Visit the Thousand Oaks Library to check out your copy of The Soloist and make frequent visits to to learn more about this year's Thousand Oaks Reads activities.
