Heal The World - End Poverty Now Conference

Sat, Nov 21, 2009 at 8:30am

St. John’s Regional Medical Center, 1600 North Rose Avenue, Oxnard

Event Description

The Rotary District 5240 presents a "Heal the World-End Poverty Now" Poverty Conference.

The conference will address both international and local poverty, and will focus on hunger and health.

In past years, attendance to the Poverty Conference has been limited to District Rotarians, however, this year members of the community are also invited, according to Conference Chair and Ojai Rotarian Kay Bliss. “Thanks to the generous support of St. John’s Regional Medical Center, local community members will be able to join us, and there will be no cost to attend the conference”, says Bliss. “This will be a tremendous opportunity for non-Rotarians to learn about the effects of poverty both here and globally. In addition to outstanding speakers in the morning, there will be an optional networking lunch, and an afternoon ‘hands-on’ service opportunity through Food Share”.

The keynote speakers for the Conference will focus on International and Domestic Hunger, and the presenters are David Miner, PhD., Chairman of the Board for Bread for the World; Mercy Karanja, Senior Program Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Rose Hayden Smith, U.S. Historian & Garden Educator. Space is limited to 100 attendees and pre-registration is mandatory. There will be no registrations accepted at the door.
