Event Description
“Crafting a Point of View that Communicates” is the next topic in the Third Thursdays seminar series for writers to be held at Bank of Books. The series is presented by two award-winning local novelists, Patricia Kokinos, author of “Angel Park,” and Michael Mehas, author of “Stolen Boy.”
Offered free of charge as a community service of the California Literary Arts Society, the seminar series has been enthusiastically received, according to Clarey Rudd, owner of Bank of Books and board member of the Arts Society.
Mehas, a local attorney who served as associate producer of the film “Alpha Dog,” will provide a brief recap of his opening presentation on story structure, as well.
Writers who participated in the initial seminar have been submitting writing samples which will be posted in Bank of Books prior to this seminar to allow participants to meet each other and to match themselves up in small workgroups. Writers are invited to join the seminar series at any point or to attend just one of the seminars. An ongoing match-up of writers with similar genres or topics will be an ongoing part of the series as workgroups develop.
The series continues March 20th with Kokinos and Mehas teaming up to tell participants “All about the Self-Publishing Route.” Kokinos will present the April 17th seminar on “Revising, Revising, Revising,” and Mehas will present “Getting into Print: Articles, Blogs, Letters, and Critiques” on May 15th. The series will culminate on June 19th with both authors sharing their experiences on “Jumping into Marketing, 1-2-3.”
The presenters’ books are available at the store, through online sources, or on their websites, where details of their novels are displayed. Both books are also on the New in Paperback table at the Ventura Barnes & Noble store.
